A while back, I caved and joined Pinterest. At first I thought it was lame, people pinning stuff and pipe dreams (I had a somewhat narrow view due to looking at only a few pinners' boards). But then I saw the usefulness of it, and saw it could work for me. It reminds me of pulling pages out of magazines instead of keeping entire issues, and creating a file of sorts--except very few of us get to that filing part. In THAT way, Pinterest offers more ease--an instant filing system.
I'm already kind of nutty about my pins though. I want to keep them under 500. I'm also a realist, I pin things that seem feasible for me. I tend to "like" things and comment on things versus pin things. And when I accomplish something, I sometimes remove it from its board--except if it's a book, but even then I wonder, do I need goodreads
and Pinterest?
Huh, I'm boring and conflicted.
You'll notice along my left margin is my Pinterest link, and with it comes a warning to prepare to be underwhelmed.
With that and other musings in mind, here's what you won't see on my Pinterest boards (and therefore why few people follow me):
Organizational ideas-- I don't want to organize my stuff, I want less stuff. You will not see a photo of my dream closet or pantry.
Dream house designs--We live in a townhouse, and it's lovely. It's my dream home because I live here with Brad, and sometimes Mac. But I will never have vaulted ceilings with beams, a killer view, or a massive kitchen. I'm okay with that.
Yard ideas--Have you heard of a homeowners board? We have a tiny yard with strict limits of what's okay. I'm breaking rules with geraniums for Pete's sake. I can't imagine handmade wind chimes or an artfully painted fence complete with wine bottle torches (which is not to say I don't like such things.)
Celebrities--I don't crush on any of them. I wouldn't pull their pictures out of a magazine, I didn't even do that back in my fan o' Bobby Sherman days. Tom Hanks is my favorite actor, but I don't lust after the man.
Kardashians--I guess they fit in the above category, but they're so absurd I had to mention them all on their own. Reality stars? Whats real about them?
Gems--Why do already married women pin engagement rings? Anyone? My ring, a solitaire, isn't fashionable; it's full of sentiment. I want nothing different.
Designer clothes, especially those labeled "I need"--Designer? So not me. Can you imagine? People would look at my boards, look at the real me, and they'd mock. And need? I will admit to being judgmental when folks write, "I need this" under a pair of shoes, a bag, or a dress. Want is not need.
Excessive craft designs--I can only make so much. I only want to make so much. I have to know, when I pin something with whom I would make it or for where I would put it once made. If not, I don't pin it.
Lots of recipes--See excessive craft designs. I just don't cook enough to amass a collection. I tend to bake more.
Tattoos--I've seen some amazing ink in person and on Pinterest, but I have no plans for a tat.
Products I love--I'm not trendsetter, never cutting edge, and can't imagine what I'd put on it or why anyone would care.
Anything Twilight--Enough said.
Cakes decorated with fondant--Pretty but not tasty. Okay, and maybe they're not all pretty...
Hair Styles--Um, my hair is thin and wavy. Not much can be done with it. A board with one pin perhaps?
My only dream board is sort of mysterious. My son asked me to keep it that way for a time to come. Can you guess which one it is and why it's cloaked in secrecy? Check it out...
All pictures found via Pinterest, but of course.
Sorry for the wonky spacing, that's all Blogger.
